note: inspired by i decided to try my hand at a poem today!
-
a blackbird clutches the branch
outside my window,
its raindrop eyes twitching
from side to side, as it tilts its beak
towards the sky.
now, it’s vanished.
i twist my neck to see where it has gone
- where could it be going?
moments later, it lands
on a neighboring tree,
cheeks bulging with twigs and leaves.
two hops of its feet and a cock of the head later
it vanishes again
without a lingering thought.
i see its silhouette scrape the sky
and taste the familiar bile
of a jealous heart, watching another soul
ascend, propelled
by a pure, unquestioned knowing toward which it flies -
a knowing
i wish i knew.
Holy smokes woman, this....this is a poem. Raindrop eyes. Scrape the sky. The jealousy line. The meaning....wonderful
